Ziegler takes control of State Amateur
UW assistant coach opens five-shot lead

MEQUON, WI — Robbie Ziegler shot a 1-over par 71 for a five shot lead after two rounds of the 113 th Wisconsin State Amateur Championship at Ozaukee Country Club Tuesday.
Only three players, Zach Gaugert, Mike Murphy and Wil Wittmann, were able to equal par for the day in warm, windy conditions.
Ziegler, who plays out of University Ridge Golf Course and is the assistant coach for the men’s golf team at the University of Wisconsin, said he could tell right away that the course was playing much tougher than the first day.
“After the first two holes you could just tell with the wind,” he said. “I knew if I stayed around par, I would be in good condition for tomorrow.”
Christopher Colla of Whispering Springs Golf Club is alone in second place at 2-over par.
70 players made the 36-hole cut at 14-over par, 154.
