A woman was sexually assaulted outside her apartment, according to a release from Madison police.

The 23-year-old woman told police she had just moved into her Cypress Way apartment last weekend when the stranger attacked her around midnight Sunday as the man tried to enter her building.

The woman said the man approached and attempted to make conversation. She said she ignored him while she got out her key and tried to enter the building. That’s when he grabbed the door with one hand and her chest with the other.

The man ran away after the woman pushed him and threatened him with pepper spray, according to the release.

The man is described as Hispanic, 23-29 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall with short brown hair, an average build and heavily-lidded eyes. He was wearing a light blue T-shirt and blue jeans.

The woman contacted police about the assault on Tuesday.
