Woman killed in Janesville crash identified

JANESVILLE TOWNSHIP, Wis. — The medical examiner has identified the woman killed in a head-on crash in Janesville Saturday.

The Rock County Medical Examiner’s said 78-year-old Nancy J. Klusmeyer, of Footville, died of injuries suffered in the two-vehicle crash around 6:11 p.m. on Highway 11 near Austin Road in the town of Janesville.

According to an initial police investigation, a black Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Klusmeyer, was headed west on Highway 11 west from Austin Road, while a gray Volkswagen Jetta, driven by a 43-year-old man from Janesville, was eastbound at the same location. According to the report, the Jetta entered the westbound lane, and the two cars collided head on.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital. Klusmeyer was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 43-year-old man was in critical condition Saturday. His condition was not immediately known Monday.

Police said it wasn’t known Saturday if use of alcohol or drugs contributed to the incident. Both drivers were wearing their seat-belts.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles, police said.

Highway 11 was closed for nearly two hours while crews investigated the crash.
