Woman gets 15 years in prison in attempted suffocation case

MERRILL, Wis. — A woman who tried to suffocate a Merrill man with a plastic bag has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
WJFW-TV reported 47-year-old Stacey Hansen was also given 10 years of extended supervision to follow her prison time. Hansen was earlier convicted of attempted second-degree intentional homicide and first-degree reckless injury in Lincoln County Circuit Court.
A criminal complaint said Hansen, who lived in the same building, tried to kill 76-year-old Arlo Erickson at a Merrill apartment in October 2015.
A police officer was able to revive Erickson. Prosecutors asked for a 20-year sentence, while the defense wanted five years.
