Woman arrested after video released of boy hit by car
Police made an arrest Sunday after looking for a driver who didn’t stop after striking a child on a bicycle in Beloit Tuesday morning.
Beloit police said a car driving through the intersection of Madison and McKinley streets in the city of Beloit at 7:54 a.m. struck 9-year-old Anthony Hill riding a bicycle. The driver did not stop.
Amber Mayfield, 24, of Beloit, was arrested Sunday, according to police. The case has been referred to the Rock County District Attorney’s Office.
“I saw my brother flying in the air and I was like, ‘Woah what’s happening?’ and then I saw the car stop and reverse and then pull away,” said Devontaye Hill, the victim’s brother.
Police said several citizens stopped to check on the child and call 911. The child was treated and released with minor injuries. However, the victim’s mother Tyra Stuckey said the most damage comes knowing someone abandoned her injured son.
“I probably wouldn’t be so mad about it if they did stop. Because that would’ve showed they actually cared,” Stuckey said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 608-364-6801 or Beloit Crime Stoppers at 362-7436. Citizens can also text information to 274637, then type BACS and a message.
