Witness sought in homicide case found, questioned

Madison police identified and found a man they believe might be a witness in a west side homicide case.
A person of interest is in custody in connection with the death of Larry Ewing, 76, of Madison, whose body was found April 18.
Madison police have not identified the person of interest, but said the person is in custody on a probation hold.
Police released images Monday of a man they’re trying to identify, locate and talk to. They said Wednesday that they found him.
Officers were called to an apartment in the 5000 block of Sheboygan Avenue after neighbors noticed piled-up newspapers outside Ewing’s apartment.
Police believe that Ewing was targeted and that there is no threat to the general public. The person of interest and Ewing knew one another, according to police.
Officials have not said what caused Ewing’s death, but detectives assigned to the case said there are suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
Officials ask anyone who saw anything suspicious in the 5000 block of Sheboygan Avenue to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
