Wisconsin lt. gov. hopeful spent $165K around recall

A Democrat who hoped to unseat Republican Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch in last month’s recalls spent more than $165,000 in the weeks surrounding the elections.

Campaign finance reports show Mahlon Mitchell spent $165,785 and raised $112,468 between May 22 and June 27. He spent $202,399 and raised $248,031 between January and the end of the month.

Kleefisch spent $185,508 and raised $277,170 during the reporting period. She easily outspent and outraised Mitchell for the year, collecting $1.05 million and spending $1.01 million.

She ended up defeating Mitchell in the June 5 elections.
