Wisconsin football team would welcome back Quintez Cephus
Badgers speak for first time since verdict
Madison — The Wisconsin football team is holding the locker room door wide open in case former receiver Quintez Cephus wants to return. Head coach Paul Chryst spoke publicly for the first time since Cephus was acquitted of sexual assault charges on Friday.
“Not one guy on this team, and coaches that want truly, first and foremost what’s best for Q. To help him go forward, that’s what we want,” Chryst said after Wednesday’s practice. “However that plays out, if it’s best for Q then we couldn’t be more excited for him that way.”
Several of his Cephus’ former teammates echoed the sentiment of their head coach.
“I’d love for Q to come back,” said running back Jonathan Taylor. “That’s our brother, and we would love to have him back on the field flying around with us again.”
Taylor added that Cephus’ on-field contributions would be a tremendous help. “Big physical, fast receiver. Strong, great hands. I think he’d be a great addition, like he was. He was a great addition, a great part of this team, and I would love to have him back.”
Fellow wide receiver A.J. Taylor said he’s happy for his former teammate and the possibilities he has moving forward. “It’s exciting, but it’s really up to Q. That’s his decision. We gotta live with it.”
