William R. Mossner
CARMEL, IN/ JANESVILLE— William R Mossner died Tuesday, June 26, 2012 after suffering a stroke while volunteering Sunday at the Indianapolis Air Show. His family and the family of faith rejoice that now the heavenly wings of angels rather than airplanes are what fill his ears.
William Mossner, age 72, was born September 22, 1939 to Ralph J and Clara K (Bauer) Mossner on their 14th wedding anniversary. Baptized as an infant into the Kingdom of God – Mossner rested securely in the knowledge of the salvation purchased for him by the blood of Jesus.
He married Edith (Schempp) on August 19, 1961, the only girl he ever dated and raised two children, David (Rhonda) Mossner and Danielle (Jonathan) Laatsch. He was also a joyful grandfather of four (Matthew and Mark Mossner; Marta and Harmon Laatsch). All survive; he was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Eugene Mossner.
From 1963 to 1993, Mossner worked at Sintered Specialties Incorporated (SSI) as an engineer. He was currently working for Advanced Metalworking in Carmel, Indiana. He received numerous professional honors and awards, including earning the designation of Powdered Metal Technologist (PMT) and being published International Journal of Powder Metallurgy. Because he served on the committee that wrote the difficult exam, he was not allowed to earn the designation himself until he left that committee. Mossner graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Engineering (Powder Metallurgy). He was an active volunteer. While living in Janesville, he volunteered in a variety of capacities at St Paul Lutheran Church where he and his wife were members, with the Aid Association for Lutherans Branch; the Wisconsin Republican Party; the Advanced Powdered Metallurgy International Society; and he and Edith produced ‘Mission Lights’ which was distributed at area Lutheran Churches to raise funds and awareness for local ministries. Mossner also enjoyed writing poems and children’s books; his daily walk; and the Green Bay Packers.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at ST. PAUL’S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 210 S. Ringold St., Janesville. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking memorial gifts be made to the St Paul Lutheran School Tuition Assistance Fund. SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family.
