William H. “Bill” Mueller
William H. “Bill” Mueller, 92, of Belmont, died on Monday, June 4, 2012, at Gray’s Nursing Home, Platteville.
Funeral services will 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2012 at Peace Lutheran Church, Belmont. Rev. Connie Matye will officiate. Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church, Belmont, or to the Belmont Rescue Squad. Bill was born on December 12, 1919, the son of William and Emma (Mohlman) Mueller. He was raised on a farm three miles north of Belmont. His mother passed away when he was three years old. He attended Jericho School until he was about 11 years old, at which time, his father passed away and he and his three sisters and brother moved to Platteville with an uncle.
Starting at a young age faith was central in Bill’s life. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church of Peace in Platteville. His faithfulness continued throughout his life. Bill attended Platteville schools and graduated as one of the 109 members in the Platteville High School class of 1939. After graduating, he worked on various farms and eventually returned to the Belmont area.
He was always intrigued by the carpentry business. He worked for Charlie Wichman until Charlie’s death. Bill then, with a four man crew, built 42 homes in the Belmont area and more in the country. His remodeling techniques brought him work at all times. He retired in 1992, but continued to be the all-around good guy that would fix or help fix anything.
In 1950, he moved to Belmont and then transferred his church membership to Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont. He was a custodian and financial secretary at the church for 36 years. He was on the Village of Belmont board for 19 years, the cemetery board for 20 years, a volunteer fireman when the firefighters hauled out a two-wheeled cart to fight a fire, a member of the Belmont Rifle Team, a founding member of the Belmont Sportsman’s Club, and a lifetime member of the Platteville Elks Lodge.
Bill’s hobbies included deer hunting at the cabin in Hazelhurst, cat fishing at Montello, bowling, and visiting his friends in nursing homes. Bill will be remembered for his love of God, his helping hands, his friendly visits, and his honesty.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Ella Mueller of Platteville; nieces and nephew, John (Elena) Mueller of Phoenix, NY; Perdy (Charles) Hillery of Horicon, WI; Kim (Mike) Abing of Fennimore, WI; Dawn (Randy) Jenny of Platteville; special friends, Nancy and Roger Adler; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Hazel Mueller, Mabel Heins, and Marie Nicholas; brother, Elmer Mueller.
