Wilfred Salzieder

MADISON/OSHKOSH-Wilfred A. “Will” Salzieder, age 86, of Madison, formerly of Oshkosh, passed away on Monday, January21, 2013 at Oakwood West in Madison. He was born on October 6, 1926, in Oshkosh, the son of Albert and Viola (Friday) Salzsieder. Will was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jeannette Day on July 30, 1949, in Oshkosh. He was an accounting graduate from Oshkosh Business College and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Will taught seniors to drive with the 55 Alive driving program and was a poll worker for many years. He was an active volunteer with St. Josaphat’s in Oshkosh, the Second Harvest in Omro and the American Red Cross Blood Donor program. Will enjoyed bowling, golf, the Barbershoppers and was an avid Packers and Badgers Fan but truly treasured most the time he spent with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jeannette; his children, Steve (Mary) Salzieder of Waunakee, Sue Hoffman (Mike Mach) of Fitchburg, Kathy (Travis) Durand of St. Louis, MO, Phil (Tammy) Salzieder of Las Vegas, Julie (Matt) Remacle of St. Louis, MO.; ten grandchildren, Eric (Jessica) Salzieder, Sarah Salzieder, Kelly (Seth) Burdine, Emilie, Lindsay and Halle Durand, Nicole and Tony Salzieder and Alyssa and Jackson Remacle; four great-grandchildren, Chance Johnson, Elizabeth and Isabella Salzieder and Madeleine Burdine; two sisters, Geraldine Hansen and Margaret (Larry) Easton and a brother, Thomas Salzsieder. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Will was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Patricia Salzieder; a son, Richard Salzieder, a sister, Beverly (Henry “Bud”) Zimmerman and a brother in law, Jack Hansen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OAKWOOD VILLAGE UNIVERSITY WOODS (WEST), 6205 Mineral Point Road, Madison at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 24, 2013 with Monsignor Michael Burke presiding. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at Oakwood. Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 25, 2013 in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Oshkosh.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the staffs of Oakwood Covenant Oaks and Agrace HospiceCare for the wonderful care of Will.
There will also be a memorial service held in Oshkosh at a later date to be announced.
