Wilbur H. Masbruch

Wilbur H. Masbruch, 87, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016 at Southwest Health Center, Platteville.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville. Rev. Jasmine Tesdahl will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville at a later date. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Wilbur was born on September 23, 1928 in Cuba City, Wisconsin, son of August and Sophie (Claus) Masbruch. He attended school in Elk Grove Township and Platteville High School. After one year of high school he had to work on the farm in rural Platteville. He was united in marriage to Rita Close on October 4, 1950 at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque. They lived in rural Platteville where they farmed for seven and a half years. In 1968 Wilbur went to work at John Deere Dubuque Works where he worked for 32 years, retiring in May 1990. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville. Wilbur was a very special husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He loved to take kids water skiing and to the river every weekend.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rita of Platteville; daughter, Karen (Lucky) Holzwarth of Stoughton, WI; two grandchildren, Elliot (fiancé, Ashley Arnold) Holzwarth of Monona, WI; Lindsay (Nick) Diny of Stoughton; five great-grandchildren, Finley, Aven, and Lincoln Holzwarth, Myka and Elynor Diny; sister, Dorothy Wethern of Eden Prairie MN; sisters-in-law, Mary Engling of East Dubuque, IL; Pat Close of Roscoe, IL; Ann Close of Dubuque; Hilda Close of Houston, TX; brother-in-law, David (Connie) Close of Florida; special friend, Jean Wolf of Platteville and her family; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and dear friend, Don Wolf.
