Wesley Matthews traded to Knicks
Former Madison Memorial star could seek buyout
New York — Former Madison Memorial star, Marquette University standout, and current Dallas Mavericks starter Wesley Matthews has been traded to New York.
The Mavs sent Matthews, Dennis Smith, Jr., and DeAndre Jordan to the Knicks in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis, Courtney Lee, and Tim Hardaway Jr.
Matthews has started all 44 games he’s played this season, averaging 13 points per game. He was in the final season of a four-year deal he signed in 2015. A source with knowledge of the trade tells News 3’s Kevin Lewis that Matthews could get a buyout from the Knicks, making him a free agent.
Matthews has averaged 14 points per game in ten seasons with Utah, Portland, and Dallas. His 1,505 career three-pointers are 31st on the all-time list. He was the second-fastest player ever to reach 1,000 career threes-trailing only Steph Curry.
