Wendell O. DeWitt

Wendell O. DeWitt, 88, of Tomahawk, formerly of Fort Atkinson, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at home surrounded by family, as the result of a stroke.
He was born November 20, 1927 in Charleston, AR to Lester and Minnie DeWitt.
He was a proud veteran of WWII, who served in the Marshall Islands, in the Navy. He Married Roxanna Belke, October, 27 1951. Wendell and Roxanna worked together and were happily married for over 64 years.
Wendell, along with his Father in Law, Julius Belke, opened Fort Shop Rite in 1965. Later known as Dewitt Foods, located on South Main Street in Fort Atkinson, WI, an additional store was also opened in Delevan, WI.
Upon his retirement from the grocery business, Wendell and Roxanna moved to Tomahawk, WI. They purchased the Big Bear Mini Golf & Ice Cream Shop, where he continued his love for working and socializing until his death. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanna; his four children, Barbara (Jim) Barker, Bruce (Linda) Dewitt, Brian (Karren) Dewitt, and Melissa (Steve) Zimmer; 15 grandchildren, Jenny (Chad) Alexander, Jon (Heather) Draeger, Jessy (David) Lawell, Jed (Laurel) Draeger, Josie (Brad) Gipe, Jason (Stephanie) Dewitt, Janelle (Danny) DeLeon, Justin (Nicki) Dewitt, Justina (Eric) Tavernier, Jillian (Jeff) Schulz, Joshua DeWitt, Jewel (Ted) Towle, John (Lindsay) Hoffmann, Sarah (Jesse) Hoots and Claire Hoffmann (Jason Blackledge) and 36 great grandchildren.? Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, January 30 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 29 at the Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lakeside Lutheran High School, or Salvation Army.
