Wayne J. Sweeney

Madison-Wayne J. Sweeney, age 82, died on January 23, 2013 at home surrounded by his family, after an extended illness. Wayne was born in Madison and attended Edgewood High School. He married Laura Irene Sweeney on July 28, 1950 and they raised 4 boys. Laura preceded Wayne in death and Wayne later married Coretta Thomas on May 16, 1998.
Wayne and Bert Johnson co-owned and managed MDI (Mechanical Design, Inc.) for 44 years. MDI was located in 4 states and worked on many projects throughout the Midwest with 21 hospitals and countless other buildings to their credit. Wayne was involved in other partnerships usually named after the street or City. Westport, 10th Street Partnership (Omaha), The Villager and JW Arabians were a few of his accomplishments. Most importantly Wayne was always there to help family and friends.
Wayne is survived by his wife Coretta; his sons Kevin (Joy), Kelly (Linda), Kerry (Joyce), and Keith; stepsons John (Robin) and Gary (Soraya); 21 grandchildren: Heather, Joshua, Nichole, Derrick, Ashley, Shannon, Patrick, Tegan, Benjamin, Tyler, Samuel, Maggi, Tiffany, Kathryn, Joseph; step grandchildren Danielle, Trevor, Maddie and Hannah, Veronica, Moises,Sara; 11 great grandchildren: Jacci, Marissa, Ava, Sunny, Dexter, Makenzie, Hope, Brooke, Brielle, Kade, Kaia; his brother Jim and sister Kay Wipperfurth.
Wayne was predeceased by parents; his wife Laura; brothers Donald, Verlyn and sister Geneieve (Dolly) Rocca; daughter-in-law Janet; and two great granddaughters Bella and Kambria.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday January 29, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. at QUEEN OF PEACE CHURCH, 401 South Owen Dr., Madison with Monsignor Ken Fiedler officiating. Visitation will be held at the JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Rd., on Monday January 28 from 4 -7P.M. and at the church from 10 A.M. until the time of mass. Memorial contributions to Agrace HospiceCare are welcome. The family would like to especially thank the Agrace staff for their support and care.
