Vruwink announces she’s staying in Assembly

Wis. ranked 8th in nation for volunteering

Democratic state Rep. Amy Sue Vruwink, of Milladore, says she will remain in the state Assembly and not accept a job in Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s administration.

Vruwink issued a statement Wednesday saying despite “a lot of speculation,” she will not be leaving the Legislature to take a job with the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

Vruwink has been in the Assembly since 2002. She won re-election last year by just 144 votes after Republicans redrew the boundary lines of her central Wisconsin district to make it more GOP-friendly.

Republicans hold a 60-39 majority in the Assembly.

Vruwink says her focus will remain on her district and helping her brother fight pancreatic cancer..
