Virginia M. “Ginny” Hueschen

Virginia “Ginny” Hueschen, age 92, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Meriter Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 7, 1919 in Walworth, WI to Lloyd and Nettie (Edington) McElwain. She spent all her early years in Walworth, graduating from 8th grade and high school there. In high school she was active in music, drama and Girl Scouts, earning her Golden Eagle Award. She attended the University of Wisconsin and was a medical assistant for many years at Jackson Clinic (now Physicians Plus).
On September 5, 1943 she was married to L. Harold “Hal” Hueschen at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison. She traveled with him to the different army bases he was assigned to until he was sent overseas.
While their two boys were growing up, they enjoyed camping, visiting the National State Parks and zoos across the country. They were active in the Boy and also Girl Scout groups. Virginia enjoyed crafts of all sorts. She taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the Midvale Circle, the church’s Service League and Couples Club. In 2006 she and her husband moved to Oakwood East Residential retirement Community. They enjoyed their life there and the different activities they took part in. She enjoyed her volunteer work there.
Virginia is survived by two sons, John (Judy) Hueschen of Madison and Dr. Richard (Dr. Denise Despres) Hueschen of Cedar Crest, New Mexico; two grandchildren, Peter Hueschen of Milwaukee, WI and Kathleen (Kerry) Wang of Louisville, KY; five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Grace (Lloyd) Fielher of St. Louis, MO and Lois (Art) Lange of Aurora, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband L. Harold Hueschen, her parents, sister, Mary Ellen (Dick) Bryon and her grandparents, William and Mary McElwain and George and Zillah Edington.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Oakwood East Chapel, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison with Pastor Curt Everson officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at Oakwood East Chapel. Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at Walworth Cemetery, Walworth, WI.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Bethel Media Ministry or Bethel Series, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, WI or the Oakwood Foundation.
