Verona tacks on another project, residents frustrated with construction
Public Works Dept. starts another project Monday.
VERONA, Wis. — Lacy Road construction is slated to begin in Verona on Monday. This is on top of at least three other construction projects in the area.
People who live there said they are starting to feel it.
“Everywhere you turn it’s construction,” said Julie Brinen. “I try to take longer routes, and then it’s construction.”
Brinen and her son said when school was in session it would take them a half-hour to drive what would normally be five to 10 minutes.
“I was late every day, pretty much,” her son Alex said.
Verona Public Works director Theran Jacobson understands there is frustration, because he has to drive to work through it too, but he said the construction makes for better roads in the future. He said doing multiple simultaneously cuts down on the amount of time the area will be under construction in the long run.
He also added Verona residents aren’t cut off, as some have suggested, because there is a way in and out of the city on either end.
“We’re doing the best we can,” he said. “It’s Wisconsin, it’s the summer, which equals orange barrels.”
