Vehicle of interest ID’d in Plain bank robbery

Deputies: Vehicle was seen leaving nearby car wash, heading toward Spring Green

PLAIN, Wis. — Sauk County sheriff’s deputies said an investigation into a bank robbery in the village of Plain has led them to identify a vehicle of interest.

On Oct. 7 three bank employees in Plain were taken to a hospital after pepper spray was used in an armed robbery.

Officers were called to People’s Community Bank at 1065 Main St. at 10:05 a.m. for a report of a bank robbery, officials said. The masked robbers directed their handguns at bank employees and forced them to turn over money from different areas of the bank.

After a short time inside, the robbers directed bank employees to a corner of the facility and started to spray them with what officials believe was pepper spray, according to a release. The robbers escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.

Two Africa-American men were seen running into a nearby car wash behind the bank, officials said. The robbers were wearing dark-colored clothing with the majority of their faces covered.

Based on information deputies learned during the investigation, a vehicle of interest has been identified as a dark-colored minivan, which was seen leaving the area of a nearby car wash and heading south on Highway 23 toward Spring Green.

Investigators believe the minivan was being driven by a white female with short brown hair, according to the release. The vehicle appears to have a clear driver’s-side window and dark tinted windows in the back.
