United Way of Dane County honors DHS secretary-designee, a longtime volunteer
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Karen Timberlake on Friday received the Women United Philanthropy Award from the United Way of Dane County.
Timberlake, a longtime volunteer for the organization, received the award during a brunch event Friday morning.
Women United is a branch of United Way and champions education across communities by bringing together families, teachers and nonprofits.
“We know that when we come together and that power of many working for all, we can actually achieve that systemic change, that long-term change, that doesn’t just help right now but it impacts families for generations,” said Renee Moe, the CEO of the United Way of Dane County.
Friday’s event benefitted Schools of Hope, which aims to improve the academic achievement of students in kindergarten through fifth grade through tutoring and individual support.
