Trees to be pruned, removed on Capitol grounds next week

Several trees will be pruned and one red oak will be removed next week on the Capitol grounds, according to a release.

A red oak at the corner of the King Street walkway will be removed Tuesday because it is significantly decayed, officials said. The tree is being removed to prevent any safety hazards.

A new tree will be planted in the spring, according to the release.

Officials said a crane will be used to expedite the safe removal of the tree, which will block the parking stalls and the Capitol grounds area surrounding the tree.

On Nov. 6 and 7, several trees along Main Street and the South Hamilton Street walkway will be pruned, according to the release.

Officials said crews will complete the pruning as efficiently as possible to limit any impact to Capitol workers and visitors.
