Travis and Wendy Gavinski bought the “Cadillac of RVs” in 2020. It’s a new, 43-foot, 10th-anniversary-edition Keystone Montana that came out in 2020.
It has four slide-outs, a large living room with two couches, two electronic recliners, a large flat-screen TV, a fireplace, a full kitchen, a king master bedroom and a loft that sleeps at least two adults. It’s 13.4 feet tall and 10 feet wide, and it’s the family’s new mode of transportation to baseball tournaments and vacation road trips.
“[Finding] something definitely comfortable that we wanted to spend time in was really important to us,” says Wendy Gavinski, who had wanted an RV for a while and decided it was time to get one after COVID-19 hit.
Her son’s baseball tournaments take the family all over the country, and Gavinski also travels frequently to trade shows as the founder of DSG Outerwear, a women’s outdoor apparel brand.
The couple lives in Monona with their 17-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son. “We did a couple of trips this year and we let them bring friends,” Travis Gavinski says. There’s more than enough space for everyone inside the RV — but finding enough space to store the RV itself is another story. He’s in the process of building a 6,000-square-foot shed to store the rig, along with some other “toys.”
Cameras on the side and back of the RV help him maneuver the fifth wheel that makes for a 70-some-foot train when it’s attached to his truck. “I always had experience with big trucks and trailers,” he says. “But it’s kind of nerve-wracking when you’re driving down the road and get a big gust of wind.”
