Training simulates explosion at Camp Randall

A training exercise will test emergency response to a simulated explosion at Camp Randall Stadium next week.

Numerous agencies are scheduled to participate in the full-scale emergency exercise near Camp Randall starting at 5 a.m. Thursday.

Planners said the exercise involves 400 people and is designed to look as real as possible. Anyone in the area should expect to see smoke, and acting victims with fake blood and injuries. The sound of an explosion is expected at about 7 a.m. Sirens should be done sounding by 10 a.m.

Monroe Street will be blocked from Regent Street to Randall Avenue from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. The UW Credit Union will be closed until 3 p.m. and will only be open for pedestrian traffic at that time.

Some of the participating agencies include University of Wisconsin Police, Madison fire and police departments, the Dane Country Sheriff Office, Dane County Emergency Management, the Department of Justice, FBI, U.S. Attorney’s Office, UW Hospital, and Meriter Hospital.
