‘Tis The Season: Lights Strung Up Along University Ave.

The Shorewood Hills Foundation is keeping a holiday tradition alive again this holiday season.

Around 40 volunteers spent Saturday stringing lights on trees lining University Avenue for the upcoming holiday season in memory of Dr. Jack Kammer, the founder of the Shorewood Hills Foundation.

Kammer planted the 228 trees and started the seasonal light display in 1997.

He passed away last year, but his family said his legacy will carry on with the continuation of the traditional lighting display.

“It was always to be his gift to the community,” said his son, Chris. “No matter what your faith, your belief for the holidays. It was something to warm up your soul a little bit. So we want to keep his lights shining, so definitely we’ll keep it going year after year.”

Anyone looking to make a contribution to the foundation can send a donation to: Shorewood Hills Foundation, Holiday Lights Fund, M&I Bank of Hilldale, 401 S. Segoe Road, Madison, WI, 53705.

The lights will be turned on closer to the Thanksgiving holiday.
