Timothy J. Moxness
Timothy J. Moxness, 73, of Platteville, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville. Rev. Jeff Pedersen will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Tim was born on May 2, 1939 in Rice Lake, WI, the son of Oscar and Eleanore (O’Gara) Moxness. He was united in marriage to Patricia Margan on January 4, 1980 at Faith Lutheran Church in Cuba City. Tim graduated from Rice Lake High School, Barron County Teacher’s college, and from UW-River Falls with a degree in elementary education. On July 5, 1976 he earned the State of Wisconsin District Teacher of the Year Award. He taught at multiple school districts including Bruce, Winter, Sheboygan, Richland Center, and River Falls. He most recently taught at Cuba City School District from 1972-1995, where he taught middle school math and science, established the school’s computer science program, and served as computer science coordinator until his retirement.
Tim loved teaching and had a positive influence on many children. He also coached high school wrestling and cross-country. Tim was a man of many talents, having worked as a radio announcer for WSWW, Platteville, as a weatherman on KDUB TV, Dubuque, Iowa and was proud to be a Ham radio operator. Tim enjoyed camping and fishing at Leesome and Long Lakes in northern Wisconsin, forever, waiting to catch that big musky. Tim loved to spend time with his best friend, Ron, at the cabin in Winter, picking berries, making jam, fishing and snowmobiling. He was a stock car racer and announcer at Rice Lake Speedway. He loved sports, especially Cuba City girls’ basketball and volleyball, the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badger Football, and the Milwaukee Brewers.
He was a very witty man with an excellent sense of humor; you could always count on him to liven up a conversation with his Norwegian jokes (Ole and Lena). But Tim’s greatest love was every moment spent with his family, especially those 4 little grandchildren.
Tim is survived by his wife, Pat of Platteville; three children, John Moxness of Milwaukee, WI; David Moxness of LaCrosse, WI; and Craig (Kia) Hendrickson of Cuba City, WI; grandchildren, Lawson and Lydia Moxness, and Lukas and Camryn Hendrickson; aunt, Mary Lou O’Gara of Eau Claire, WI; cousins, Linda O’Gara of Seattle, WA; Bruce O’Gara of Eureka, CA. He is also survived by his father-in-law, John Margan, Platteville, sisters in law, Marilyn Hastert (Don), Janice Steinback (Doug), Lisa Peacock (Tim), all of Platteville, Nancy Steger (Wayne), Indianapolis, Barbara Margan (Dalton), Gonzales, LA, Karen Wagner (Al), Montfort, brothers in law, David Margan, Richard Margan (Sandy), Platteville and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law Dolores Margan; uncles, Alan O’Gara and James O’Gara; and brothers-in-law, Tom Shilliam and Chuck Martelle.
Thank you to family and friends who have loved and supported Tim and his family throughout these past few years. Special thanks to the entire staff of Southwest Health Center Nursing Home, Hospice, Senior Behavioral Sciences and Hospital who provided Tim with comfort and dignity on this journey.
