Three men arrested in Fitchburg armed robbery involving hammer

Three men face charges after allegedly attacking a man with a hammer Friday as part of an armed robbery, according to Fitchburg police.
The incident happened in the 5600 block of King James Court just before 7 p.m.
According to police, the victim was struck on the head with the hammer multiple times before being transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said they believe the three suspects who were arrested Monday knew the victim.
The three men contacted the victim and arranged to meet him on King James Court to buy clothing from him, according to a release.
The attack happened during the transaction, police said.
According to the release, the hammer was recovered, and 20-year-old Andre D. Nichols, of Fitchburg, was arrested.
Nichols faces tentative charges of party to a crime of armed robbery and party to a crime of first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
Two 16-year-olds were also taken into custody Monday and face similar charges.
