Thinking outside the box this Giving Tuesday: Unique ways you can donate your money, time in Dane County
8 local organizations asking for help

MADISON, Wis.– After Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday comes perhaps the most purposeful of all early shopping days: Giving Tuesday. This year, many local non-profits and businesses are in need of additional support. We’ve compiled a list of unique ways to give your time and/or money in Dane County.
The organization was founded in June 2020 as a way to fight food insecurity in Madison, especially in communities of color. It’s a partnership between local independent restaurants, nonprofits, local food banks, and pantries. Click here to make a tax deductible donation.
Dane Buy Local promotes shopping at small businesses to create more jobs in the area and expand minority-owned businesses. It trains employees at low or no cost to local businesses and helps young entrepreneurs get started. You can make a gift to the organization or, if you own a business or operate a non-profit in the county, become a member.
The Greater Madison Resource Center
The Project was started in 2013 after its founder discovered the alarming statistics associated with literacy rates and book ownership among families experiencing poverty. It provides free books and fun and engaging literacy programs to children and teachers. There are many ways to get involved: you can donate books, donate money, host a virtual book drive, or sign up to restock Madison’s Little Free Libraries.
In addition to physical health, mental health has suffered greatly during this pandemic. RISE provides early childhood and mental health services to help families thrive. Click here to make a donation. RISE also continues to provide virtual support to local families. Click here to volunteer.
The Madison food pantry is serving a record number of people right now. Thanksgiving is the non-profit’s busiest day, but this year, every day is busier than usual. You can schedule a one-time or monthly donation here.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison
The centerpiece of the Madison community is facing serious financial challenges. More than 30 departments and causes are asking for help, and through the Alumni Association’s ‘Jumpstart’ program, you can choose where your money will go. Options include the UW Health COVID-19 Response Fund, the UW-Madison Chancellor Scholars Program, and the Center for Healthy Minds.
