The Spam Report: Day #131: “GET BACK TO ME”

MY DESK: MADISON — There are some things from England that have translated well in America. The Beatles, Downton Abbey, and Benny Hill, for example. Did I just create cultural blasphemy by the way for putting the Beatles and Downton Abbey in the same conversation as Benny Hill?

Anyhow, the British culture, while similar to ours, is not exact. Yes, we do speak the same language, mostly… For example, I once watched a soccer (football) game with some Liverpool fans at a pub and I swear it wasn’t until the second pint that I understood what they were saying.

There should be no excuse for the butchering of the language and poor grammar that we see in the email below, but that’s not why I am posting it.

In England, there are two types of lawyers: the barristers, who handle the work in court, and the solicitors, who handle pretty much all of the office work. The positions are both professional in nature and require extra schooling, testing, etc.

However, in our country, solicitation takes on a different meaning. When I read, “I am Mr Khazin Mani a solicitor,” I wonder what he wants from me. He says I share the same name as a dead guy client of his and he wants to give me access to $7.8 million, but my translation leads me to think he’s looking to scam me.

Lost in translation we could call today’s entry. Not a British film, but a good one nonetheless. We can debate how it compares with Benny Hill at a later date. Different genres, we can leave it at that.
