‘The absolute best person you could meet:’ Family mourns the death of Illinois state trooper

The family of Trooper Brooke Jones-Story is speaking out for the first time since the member of the Illinois State Patrol was killed in a crash.

The Jones-Story family writes in a statement that the trooper was “a woman who embraced life and loved spending time with her beloved family and friends.”

They say, when she wasn’t working, she could be found working on her farm, cheering for the Cubs, or watching all the Disney movies she could find.

The statement goes on to say Jones-Story was “a dedicated, courageous, loving, and passionate officer and the absolute best person you could meet.”

On Thursday, Jones-Story was conducting a traffic stop on U.S. Route 20 westbound in Stephenson County, when a tractor-trailer veered off the road and hit her and her squad car.
