Teen charged with diamond necklace theft
Wisconsin police say 17-year-old sold mother's stolen $51,000 diamond necklace for $100
LA CROSSE, Wis. — La Crosse police say a teen stole her mother’s $51,000 diamond necklace and sold it for $100 to a jewelry store employee in Wisconsin.
The La Crosse Tribune reported the FBI recovered the 4.6-carat diamond necklace. The teen’s mother told authorities she thought she lost the necklace during a June move from La Crosse to Chanhassen, Minn.
The 17-year-old was arrested Friday after having the necklace appraised at a jewelry store that contacted the FBI’s La Crosse office, suspecting theft.
An employee at another jewelry store offered the teen $100 for the necklace. He later told police that he suspected the necklace was stolen and “was going to try to get to the bottom on it.”
The teen was charged Monday with misdemeanor theft.
