An attempted robber fled empty-handed Friday night after trying to rob a delivery driver on Madison’s southwest side, police said.

In a news release, police said the victim was attempting to make a delivery in the 6500 block of Raymond Road at 6 p.m. when a teenager walked up to him and asked if he had any change. The driver said no, after which the teen grabbed him and searched his pockets, but did not take anything.

Police said no weapons were shown but the robber did reach for his waistband at one point before fleeing the area on foot. Police attempted to locate the teen using a K-9 unit but were unsuccessful.

The robber is described as a black man around 15 or 16 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds. He was wearing a black hoodie, dark pants and white Nike shoes, police said.
