Teachers, police, community prepare for worst, develop shooting response plan

MADISON, Wis. — It’s hard to fathom a mass shooting in the Madison area. On Thursday, local teachers, police officers, and business leaders will do just that.
The Monona East Side Business Alliance is hosting a free discussion, “Mass Shootings: What can we do?”
The Monona Grove School District, Monona Police Department, and the City of Madison Police Department will discuss how to prevent shootings, how to talk to kids when shootings happen, and what lawmakers can do to solve the problem.
Mental health experts will teach different ways to talk to kids of different ages.
The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. March 1 at the Lussier Family Heritage Center in Madison.
Organizers emphasize this is not a political event. Rather, it’s a way for people from different backgrounds to offer support, brainstorm ideas, and develop an action plan if a shooting were to happen in the Madison area.
