Task force will attempt to reduce phosphorus runoff

Group wants to clean up area lakes

MADISON, Wis. — A new task force named by Dane County Executive Joe Parisi will be tasked with cleaning up area lakes through a partnership of public and private interests.

The Dane County Clean Lakes Task Force was introduced as part of Parisi’s 2013 budget. 

“This new task force will bring together the diverse partners who have been making a difference and help us effectively implement the solutions we know will lead to cleaner, healthier lakes,” said Parisi.

Members will be appointed by Parisi and include representatives from county government, the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District, land conservation, agricultural and economic experts, and other partners.

Excessive algae formation in lakes is blamed on phosphorus runoff.

The task force will also explore the economic growth potential in clean energy, clean water and agricultural markets.
