Australia is reeling from deadly bushfires and the worst drought in decades -- but fears are now growing that things could get worse, as a water shortage in the country's biggest city begins to bite.
One image was clear -- a dead orca calf being carried across the ocean by its apparently grief-stricken mother. The calf may well have died from malnutrition. The Southern Resident Killer Whales in its pod are facing a critical shortage of their main food source: fat, juicy salmon.
A controversial effort to broaden California's definition of renewable energy has fizzled out. The proposal would have allowed electricity from a large dam in the Central Valley to count the same as solar and wind.
