A domestic dispute in Janesville overnight led to police calling in a SWAT team to remove a man from a basement after he barricaded himself inside, according to Janesville police.

The incident started just before 10 p.m. Monday at the home in the 700 block of Tudor Drive in Janesville.

According to Janesville police, a woman told police when they arrived that Francis Hatch, 45, of Janesville had gone into the basement to avoid contact with officers. When officers tried to talk to Hatch, police said Hatch barricaded himself in a workshop room with a crow bar and blocked the door.

Police determined they needed the SWAT team for help. They arrived and remained on the scene until just before 3 a.m., when they convinced Hatch to surrender peacefully.
