Suspicious man with gun spotted near Janesville school

JANESVILLE, Wis. — A suspicious man was spotted Thursday morning near an elementary school in Janesville, according to a release from Janesville police.
A witness told police the man got out of a vehicle at 7:13 a.m. near Lincoln Elementary School at 1821 Conde St., stumbled as if he was intoxicated, and picked up a long gun from the ground on the north side of the school near the street.
The man is described as white, 6 feet tall, with a thin build and facial hair. He was wearing round glasses, blue jeans and a green or blue hat. He got out of a white four-door vehicle with a curved rear bumper area.
Police said there is no information that ties the incident to the Armageddon Gun Shop burglary being investigated by the Rock County Sheriff’s Office and the Janesville Police Department, but the combination of the incidents contributed to the Janesville School District initiating a soft lockdown at all Janesville schools.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 608-755-3100.
