Suspected drunken driver flees traffic stop, police say

McFARLAND, Wis. — A man suspected of seventh-offense operating while intoxicated was caught after fleeing a traffic stop, according to a release from McFarland police.
An officer spotted a vehicle veering out of its lane at 1:08 a.m. Tuesday as it traveled north on Highway 51 from Terminal Drive. The officer activated his emergency lights and the driver of the suspect vehicle stopped on Mill Pond Road, but as the officer approached the vehicle, the driver sped away, according to police.
After a short pursuit, the suspect vehicle struck a curb and was disabled. The driver ran away, but was caught after a short distance, police said.
Carlos Montiel, 30, was arrested on suspicion of seventh-offense OWI, fleeing, operating after revocation and on a parole violation.
