Surveillance video leads to theft arrests, officials say

Surveillance video led police to arrest three men suspected of stealing a woman’s tote bag on State Street Saturday, according to a release.
The 25-year-old woman told police her tote bag, containing her wallet and iPad, was stolen Saturday afternoon after she set it down outside a State Street restaurant, according to the release.
Officials said a City of Madison surveillance camera showed Cory L. Haak, 38, walking to a park area at 30 W. Mifflin with the woman’s bag.
Haak and Michael T. Beckes, 20, of Madison, went through her belongings, and Ryan C. Colognesi, 24, of Madison, hid the bag is some bushes, according to the release.
Officials said the woman got everything back except her cash.
Haak, Beckes and Colognesi were arrested around 5:40 p.m. on tentative charges of theft — party to a crime.
