Sun Prairie hands Craig first loss of season, 6-2

Coby Oswalt allowed two runs over seven innings and J.P. Curran went two for two at the plate to lead Sun Prairie to a 6-2 win over Janesville Craig in a Big Eight baseball game at Sun Prairie Tuesday.

It was the first loss of the season for Craig (19-1) which is ranked number one in the state in Division One by the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Mike Brekke singled in both Sun Prairie runs.

Craig tied it in the top of the second on an Alex Marro RBI single and a Jack Blomgren sacrifice bunt.

Curran’s double in the bottom of the third gave Sun Prairie the lead again 3-2.

That was the score until the Cardinals erupted for three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Oswalt drove in Curran with a single, then Justus Benson drove in two more with another single to make the final 6-2.

Craig (14-1 Big Eight) has clinched a tie for its first conference baseball championship since 2001.  Sun Prairie trails Craig by three games with three games to play in the regular season.
