SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — Conversion therapy, the harmful practice of trying to change an individual’s sexuality using pseudoscientific means, is now banned for use on minors in Sun Prairie.

The Sun Prairie City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to ban using the practice on minors, making Sun Prairie the thirteenth municipality in Wisconsin to do so.

“The conversion ban ordinance is another step in making this community a place where all are welcome and protected,” Sun Prairie Mayor Paul Esser said.

Any individuals licensed by the state as a physician, psychologist, social worker, marriage and family therapist, professional counselor, nurse, or chemical dependency counselor who offer the practice to minors will be required to report to their licensing board.
