Strada serves up pizza in environmentally-friendly containers

MADISON, Wis. — Visitors to an Italian-style restaurant inside the Memorial Union at the University of Wisconsin-Madison may notice a different kind of carry-out container is being used.
When Strada opened inside the renovated Memorial Union in January, chefs began serving up orders in environmentally-friendly carry-out containers called “GreenBoxes.”
The containers are made from 100 percent recycled material and have perforations that allow pizza lovers to tear the box apart and use it as a plate, Union officials said. The containers also transform into compact storage containers for leftovers.
The restaurant got the idea to use the boxes after an employee saw them on an episode of the TV show “Shark Tank.”
Strada’s gas-fired oven can cook a pizza in about two minutes.
