Prep Mania Game of the Week winter schedule released

State softball wrapped up in Verona and Madison Saturday as the rain soaked weekend caused scheduling changes and for teams to relocate to Verona. 

First in Verona, Deforest played Watertown in the division one semifinals. After scoring 16 runs in the quarterfinals, Watertown’s offense didn’t slow down in the semis. The Goslings scored 13 runs on 17 hits to beat the Norskies 13-7. Ellee Johnson led the way for Watertown. The lead-off hitter went 5-5, driving in a run and scoring four more. 

Watertown advanced to the division one championship, where they will play Westosha Central Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

In division four semifinals action, Juda/Albany played Oakfield. Things got started in the first inning as Oakfield’s McKaela Ryan hit an inside the park home run to left field. Juda/Albany scored a run in the bottom of the inning when Sarah Jordan’s single up the middle drove a run in to make it 1-1. 

The teams remained dead-locked throughout and went into extra innings tied 3-3. 

In the eighth inning, Oakfield broke the tie. Madelyn Ryan’s single drove in the go ahead run. Alyssa Sabel then drove in two more runs to make it 6-3. 

Oakfield won the game 6-4. Pacelli then defeated Oakfield 1-0 in the division four final.

In the division three state final, Poynette took on Laconia in a low scoring affair. Laconia scored a run on a throwing error in the third and another after a SAC fly in the fourth. Poynette managed just one run in the sixth inning as Laconia pitcher Kayla Schwebke struck out 12 batters in seven innings. Laconia took the division three state championship with a 2-1 win over the Pumas.
