State Officials Releases 10-Year Health Plan

State officials have released a 10-year health improvement plan focused on disease and injury prevention.

The plan released by the state Department of Health Services calls for integrating disease and injury prevention into everyday life through new laws and policies, education, health care and even how communities are designed.

The two overriding goals are to eliminate health disparities based on race, ethnicity, socio-economic factors, sexual or gender orientation and disability and focusing on creating a high quality of life for everyone.

The plan targets reducing smoking, lowering obesity rates, ensuring access to good nutrition and increasing exercise.

The Legislature has required a health improvement plan for every decade starting in 2000.
