The former Badger Army Ammunition Plant near Baraboo will be open to the public for free tours on Saturday.

The state Department of Natural Resources is opening the property from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for automobile tours. A similar tour was offered in October 2012 and more than 1,100 vehicles passed through the gates.

Tour maps are available on the DNR website at dnr.wi.gov.

The DNR is currently working on a plan for using the sprawling site of the former Badger plant, which has been designated as the Sauk Prairie Recreation Area.

The plant closed in 1975. The DNR owns 3,800 acres of the site.
