Star Bar Now Open in the Constellation
The new Star Bar will feature local beers like those from One Barrel Brewing, Ale Asylum, Karben4 and New Glarus, plus all the fixins' for craft cocktails.

The name for the new Star Bar may have truly been written in the stars.

For many businesses, it can take months before settling on the perfect name, but for longtime friends Peter Gentry and Hawk Sullivan, naming their bar was surprisingly easy.

Gentry says at an early meeting, he glanced at a logo Sullivan was doodling when he realized the two had independently come up with the same name. “It was kind of a serendipitous moment for us,” says Gentry.

Star Bar, the product of a collaboration between Gentry, owner of , and Sullivan, who owns Jade Monkey and , is the newest spot in the rapidly growing East Washington corridor.

According to Gentry, Star Bar will represent the best elements from his and Sullivan’s other bars in the energetic but comfortable Constellation building.

Gentry hopes the bar will serve the building’s residents and the nearby neighborhood well, and says it will feature one hundred bottles of beer, an extensive wine list and craft cocktails.

One of the most notable cocktails will be the OG Manhattan, or Capone’s Manhattan, a drink made with Templeton Rye whiskey, vermouth and bitters—and the gangster’s drink of choice.

Although this new hot spot does not have a kitchen, it will be serving a weekly “wake and waffle” brunch, featuring fresh waffles, bloody Marys and mimosas.

Star Bar hosted a soft opening Tuesday, and will kick off its grand opening weekend at 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 16.
