Son of missing Windsor couple arrested for providing false information, sheriff’s office says
The couples' disappearance is also believed to be suspicious
MADISON, Wis. — The son of a missing Windsor couple was taken into custody Thursday night for allegedly giving false information on his parents’ whereabouts, according to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
Bart and Krista Halderson, 50 and 53, were last seen at their home July 1. Their son, Chandler Halderson, 23, said the couple planned to visit Langlade County over the Fourth of July weekend but wasn’t sure whether they made it there.
“They were picked up by their friends, who I never got the name of. I assumed it was someone I was aware of, like close neighbors of theirs up the street, or their best friends down on the east side,” Halderson said. “That’s what I assumed. I didn’t look any more into it. They got picked up and left with another couple.”
Chandler said the couple left for the trip before 6 a.m. Friday. A news release said detectives believe their disappearance is suspicious and that their son gave officials false information.
Halderson was booked into the Dane County Jail at 9:30 p.m. for providing false information on a missing persons case.
The release said Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett will provide more information regarding the investigation during a news conference Friday.
Authorities are continuing to ask for the public’s help with any information on the investigation. Callers can leave a tip with the sheriff’s office at 608-284-6900.
