A son has been formally charged with killing his father in Beloit early Monday morning.

Peter Hemmy, 30, was charged with first-degree intentional homicide Wednesday, and was put on a $250,000 bond.

Police said Hemmy walked into the Beloit police lobby around 1:30 a.m. and said he committed a crime at his home. That’s when police went to check it out and found Bruce Hemmy, 58, dead.

Prosecutors said Hemmy used a hammer to kill his father because his parents were moving and he would have no place to live.

A criminal complaint said Hemmy told an officer that he had killed his father by hitting him in the head “three or four times” with a hammer.

Hemmy is due back in court next month.
