Slippery roads lead to dozens of Milwaukee crashes

Boy, 9, dies from injuries in rollover crash

A Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputy was injured and two squad cars smashed as wet roads led to dozens of crashes in Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office says the deputy was in the Mitchell Interchange about 6:20 a.m. Sunday when his squad car was struck by a flatbed trailer truck.

The deputy was protecting another deputy who was helping a vehicle that had spun out. The flatbed truck then struck the other squad car at the scene and pushed it into the disabled vehicle.

The deputy had to be extricated from the squad car and was taken to Froedtert Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Milwaukee police are investigating the crash.

By early Sunday afternoon, sheriff’s deputies had responded to 24 crashes on the Milwaukee freeway.
