Shirley Mae Butler

CROSS PLAINS – Shirley Mae Butler, age 82, of Cross Plains, passed away on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, at Ingleside Manor. She was born on April 20, 1940, in Whitewater, Wis., the daughter of Albert Schoephoerster and Bernita (Barth) Schoephoerster.
Shirley attended school in Whitewater. She married August Butler on May 14, 1960. She enjoyed being a homemaker, caring for her grandchildren when they were young, and spending time with family. She also assisted her husband in his upholstering shop, doing bookkeeping and sewing. In her later years, she liked going to the adult day center where she enjoyed crafts and activities. Shirley also enjoyed working on word searches, coloring, looking at photos and spending time with her family pets. She was a strong person, having survived both breast cancer and colon cancer, as well as several eye surgeries.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Mary Butler; sons, Kenneth (Peggy) Butler and James Butler; grandchild, Joshua Butler; sister, Betty Swisher; aunt, Gretchen Barth; as well as many step-brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandchild, Amanda Butler; brother, James (Dorothy) Schoephoerster; sister, Carol (Lowell) Clark; brother-in-law, Duane Swisher Sr.; and uncles, Raymond Barth and Reinhardt (Larraine) Barth.
Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON CROSS PLAINS FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2421 Church St., Cross Plains, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023.
