Shirley L. Weigel, 70, of Platteville, died on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Southwest Health Center, Platteville.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at the Cowboy Country Church, 1200 Betty Lane, Mineral Point, WI 53565. Pastor Stephen Troester will officiate. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday, at the church. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Memorials may be made to the Shirley L. Weigel Memorial Fund. Online condolences maybe made at www.melbyfh.com. Per the request of the family, there will be no lunch following the service.

Shirley was born on November 21, 1946 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Warren E. and Ruth (Williams) Bowden. She was united in marriage to Richard L. “Dick” Weigel on February 18, 1967 at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2013. Shirley worked for Iverson Construction as a bookkeeper. She later owned and operated Whispering Pine Grooming, Platteville. While owning her business she did obedience training and showed various breeds of dogs. She was a member of the Cowboy Country Church, Mineral Point. As a young girl growing up she was active in 4-H. She enjoyed horseback riding and following her grandchildren in all of their sporting and school events.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, Kenny (Carrie) Weigel and Jason (Tracy) Weigel; four grandchildren, Jamie, Brandon, Hailey Jane and Jessa Weigel; two great-grandchildren, Annebelle and Braydon; three sisters, Beth (Roger) Steinhoff, Nancy (Mark) Burbach, and Paula (Dan) Cushman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Barb and Charlie Bratton, Mike and Buffy Weigel, Ron and Julie Weigel, and Norman Mauthe; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
